FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION: by Wojtek Klimek

Wojtek Klimek's works are convincing not only because of their masterfully executed technique, but also because of the visible silence that emerges from them. The paintings seem surrealistic as well as realistic, which triggers an effect in the viewer - a certain kind of peace and yet also tension.

The low horizon in the depictions leaves plenty of room for Klimek's fantastic-atmospheric sky gradients as well as impressive and refined lighting, which contribute to the surreal character of the seemingly uninhabited landscapes. The skilful interplay of light and shadow, geometric elements, glaringly luminous forms or semi-transparent frames balance each other out in the works, so that everything seems to be stable and fragile at the same time in a strange way.

Klimek plays with a fascinating complexity and mysterious symmetries. The artist experiments in his paintings like in a stage set, which he plays with, changes and rearranges until a harmonious and charged landscape has emerged. The result is a world of images that invite the viewer to dream and that are always able to stimulate the imagination anew.
